We are looking to adopt a beautiful little fox into the family. We would prefer either a Fennec, Red, or Arctic, but are definitely open to other breeds. We live in Louisiana but would willingly travel to Mississippi, Alabama, or even Texas. So, if any of you have some information on where we might be able to find a breeder, or auction that would likely have foxes, that would be great! Thanks so much and have a great day!

Before you buy something as exotic as a fox, check your town and county ordinances in addition to the state laws. In regards to things like exotic animals, town laws trump county, and both laws trump state. Even if it’s legal in the state, it isn’t necessarily legal in your city or county. As far as i know, only Florida has a law that cities and counties can’t have their own laws in regards to exotic animals.
Well, you probably will have to wait until next year if you were interested in a red or arctic. They only breed once a year, in spring, and any babies for sale at this point will be older kits that the breeder couldn’t sell or impulse buys people are trying to get rid of. I believe fennecs breed twice a year, so there should be babies available at some point before next spring.
I urge you not to give in to getting an older baby like the few available on exotic pet classifieds online, just because you feel sorry or don’t want to wait. In order to make a true ‘pet quality’ pet, a fox must be with you and settled into your house by the time it’s six or seven weeks old. I would not recommended getting one older, as they are exotic and not dogs or cats, they need to bond young.
